Feb 27, 2019 at 21:57 comment added ben The Apollo project cost ~$150 billion (in 2019 dollars) and employed hundreds of thousands of people, including many who were highly trained in their respective fields. It's not like they overdid it either when they could have done it much more simply. Literally the main goal was to put some boots on the moon and plant a flag. What kind of savings are you expecting from finding "cheap stuff" that would make going to the moon doable for a single man/small team at a fraction of that cost? On top of that, how are you going to return salvage to the Earth's surface at all?
