Timeline for How hard is it to fly through the tail of a comet? Has it been done?

Sadly, I came into it in 1988, after the mission had flown, and much of the analysis had been done, so I don't know much about the mission planning phase, and specifically nothing about the planning for the tail encounter. We definitely flew right through the middle of the plasma tail, though; there's a huge sign change in the magnetic field as we passed from one lobe to the other. | |
