SSME is the acronym for the Space Shuttle Main Engine. Sometimes called the RS-25, or RS-25D.
The Space Shuttle Main Engines (SSME) are one of the higher performing rocket engines with a vacuum ISP of 452.3s burning liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen. Each Space Shuttle launch used three SSME engines, drawing their fuel and oxidizer from the External Tank.
